After 18 1/2 years I finally took my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander XL, purchased new, to an auto shop NOT owned by the manufacturer’s dealer. Maplewood Auto, in Holland, Michigan, was recommended to me by a good friend who has had them deal with his cars for years. I decided if they were good enough to work on his $80,000 4- year old Lexus, they could work on mine as well. They claim to service domestic AND foreign vehicles including Mitsubishi. How did that work out for me? In a word: excellent! Other than normal maintenance items (tires, oil changes, and factory recommendations) over the years this was the FIRST actual repair for my all wheel drive SUV. The rear shocks were “shot” and likely due to the terrible railroad crossings in Holland. Replacing them wasn’t an easy chore but the service techs did a great job. On top of that they completed the work, including a synthetic oil/filter change, for just 1/3 of what I was quoted by the Mitsubishi dealer in Grand Rapids. Do I recommend them? One word: YES!

I booked on line for an appointment with an approximate lead time of 10 days. I intentionally booked for 7:00 AM so I would be able to have my car back for the work I needed it for. I requested an oil change and for the headlight switch to be checked, our headlights arent working consistently. I didnt receive any communication, so I called around 3:00 to check the status, was told I would receive a call from someone else who might know more about it. Received a call around 5:00 that they just finished checking the headlight switch and couldnt find anything wrong with it. The cost for this troubleshooting was $80.00. My issue is that I scheduled any early appointment for this to be looked into starting at 7:00AM. I cancelled appointments because no communication was given and learned later that checking the headlight switch was delayed until later that day. Why schedule work in advance if they arent doing the work until later that day? Why no communication until I called for an update? Im not sure what checking out a headlight switch requires, but $80.00 seems exorbitant.

I've been going to Maplewood for at least a decade now, and the staff have always been super friendly and knowledgeable. And they're not in the habit of trying to sell you on every conceivable tweak/repair. They're very straightforward about the nature of any possible repair/maintenance work and how vital any such job may be. I'll gladly keep bringing my vehicle here for many years to come!
